Preparing Your Quilt

  • When adding your borders measure through the middle of your quilt and cut borders to this measurement.  This will eliminate the wavy borders.
  • Clip any loose  threads from your quilt.  This is especially important if you have light colors.  These threads can potentially show through
  • Backing and batting should be 4" larger on all sides.
  • When seaming your backing use 1/2 inch seam allowances and press the seams open.
  • Backing should be squared. This means 90 degree angles. This is extremely important.
  • Press both backing and quilt top.
  • When deciding on your backing fabric think about the color thread that will be used for the quilting.  It is best to use the same color in the top and bottom.
